Potty Training #2

Luca: 2.7 years old

We finally started your potty training from December 28th. Mama took 2 days off on Thursday and Friday and I was hoping you will get used to this before you go back to school on January 8th.

The whole weekend until January 2nd was rough, to be honest. Maybe Mama and Papa looked very intense on our faces even though our words were like “Next time, you have to pee pee (or poo poo) on the potty ok?” We say very gently. You still had to make some “accidents” in your pants. On 3rd day, I think you started to understand and being able to hold on your pee pee until you get to the bathroom, well most of the times. But you know what happened? On the 3rd day, I thought if we took your underwear off completely, I mean you were half naked, this training would go much smoother and better.

Well, not quite…. I tried to keep my eyes on you literally for the whole time. Except this just “2 seconds” to pick up a little bit of chips on the floor. As soon as I looked away and tried to pick it up with my fingers, you said “Mama, poo poo!” I was so excited that you called it out so I picked you up and brought to the master bathroom. You sat on the toilet and waiting for the pee and poo come out. You succeeded on the pee part but we didn’t see poo out. Although I saw tiny poo sticking on your leg. I wondered what happened and looked back around the door area and guess what I found on the floor!! Your poop!! 😱 And it seemed like I stepped on it (I had my socks on… Thank god!) too!! 😂

After the incident, we thought you were not quite ready yet. I was honestly disappointed. 😕 I tried to look back what we did wrong, what we can do any better, or you were not ready at all…

But we didn’t give up! We always tell you “never give up” and we should be the good example for you too.

So now it’s Jan 3rd (7th day), we tried not to give you any pressure. If you call it out from yourself, we take you to the bathroom. Sometimes we give you the reminder but it was all up to you even though you wet your pants.

In the morning of Jan 3rd, you told me you didn’t have to go pee pee just yet when I asked you if you needed to go. I said “ok. Let us know when you are ready”. You said “ok Mama”. But later on I had an idea to tell him while I was brushing my teeth.

I said to you, “you know what. You just ate your breakfast right?

You: “yeah it was good”

Mama: “I think Mr. Toilet is hungry too. He just told me he hasn’t eaten since yesterday”

You: (your eyes were enlightened) “really?”

Mama: “Yup. So if you can poo poo there (pointing the toilet bowl), he would be so happy and say “Thank you, Luca! Yum yum!” (Sorry it’s not a pretty story)

So you took off for a couple min and came back and said “Mama, pee pee!”

You sat down on the toilet, and you DID it!! Pee and… poo!! Hallelujah!! 🎉🎉🎉

Mama had to call Papa and celebrated with you!! You looked so happy and proud of yourself. And we were too!!

And you finally got some chocolates as a reward!

From this day, you started to call it out more often and you seem to understand how it should be without a diaper!!

This is a huge milestone for you. Mama and Papa are very proud of you that you are growing bigger and bigger. ❤️😄

Now we are getting close to be diaper free days!!

Great job, Luca.

We love you very much.

Much love, Your Mama ❤️

Stairs

Luca: 16 months old

As usual, I take you out for a walk after dinner and recently I realize how you climb or going down on stairs are more advance now. You don’t really sit down on stairs and try to reach it. You use handrails to go up and down. This is very new to me and you but I can see you want to try new thing and try to discover by yourself. I love what I see in front of me!

Today, you went down stairs with no hands!! Wow, it was impressive! I was little afraid that you might miss a step and fall down so I was carefully watching you. But you did it!! You didn’t have to use the handrails at all (or my hands!)!!

Day by day, you learn new things and you grow. And you become a big boy. I really enjoy watching your growth. (Well that means I have to really watch out where you are going! )

I’m glad I witnessed your new milestone  today. 😘

Much love,
Your mama

Labor Day weekend

Luca: 15 months old

Last weekend, Labor Day weekend was pretty much fun for Luca. I tried to take him out to different park 3 days in a row. Douglas Park, Colorado Park and Will Rogers Historical Park. It was his first time to visit Will Rogers and he had different experience compared to the other park. It had some horses and big polo field where he could run as much as he wanted to. They didn’t have any recreation part like swings or slides so that was bummer but they had sand field where he can play with his shovel.

I like to take him out to any park because I can get to participate to discover new things with him or try new things. He tried a slide few times per visit and he wasn’t able to sit down and slide at the beginning but now he knows how to sit and slides (he still needs to hold my heads though). I am so happy to witness his growth like this. ❤️😘😍

By the way, I used to not like Douglas Park because there are too many adults and kids everyday in the weekend. But I see why it’s so popular now. It’s gated, they got a lot of sand fields and also have various slides. For toddlers who barely start walking to big kids. I like it a lot now that I take Luca there almost every weekend.

It was nice and relaxing weekend for Papa and it was busy for mama but it was fun weekend. 😄

Such a cute mature look smile you got here!
After a lot of exploring, snack tastes good! Especially being outside makes you feel so good!
Looks! Horses!! Lets get closer next time!
He loves his red shovel and dig sands!
Hey, where are you going??

This is when the servers were singing a happy birthday song for you. You love people and you love to smile at them! That’s my boy! 😄 This world needs a lot of smiles and love, not hate!

One of my favorites, jelly fish. So mesmerizing…

Luca: 12 months old

Solid food: almost anything! And cow milk!

I thought it was a long journey to reach this point for both of us, Mama and Papa. However, time goes really fast and the “tough” time that we didn’t know what we were doing at the beginning and thought it was tough seems to be such a long time ago and I almost forgot how tough it was. It was just a few seconds that it lasted. That’s how I feel like now. Because your smile, your hug, everything that you do with me or us is so rewarding and I love what I do for you so it doesn’t matter what it used to be now.

I am so happy and so lucky to have you as our child. I am thanking God that he sent you to us and you are a gift and “miracle” for us.

I love you always.
Your Mama

Started to walk!

Luca tries to walk but so stiff! 😊

Luca: 9 months

You started to learn how to walk a bit with your Papa’s help since 3 weeks ago. You can’t walk fully by yourself just yet but I thought it’d be fun to get you a walker toy so then you can practice how to walk.

There it is (watch the video above)! You don’t get quite yet how to turn around and stuff but that’s ok. You will learn sooner or later. It seems like I got you a right toy. You are having fuuun!! 😄 I’m happy when you are happy!!

You are flying, Luca! Happy in the back looks like “Oh god, somebody stops him…” haha

I love you very much, Luca!

Much love,

Your mama

Solid Food: Day 5

Luca: 21 weeks old

It has been 5 days since we started to introduce solid food: rice porridge (10倍粥).

Of course I didn’t expect Luca to be good at swallowing it or even put it in his mouth from the beginning but I started to see his interest towards to food, and getting better at putting the spoon in his mouth. I know it will take a little while until he gets used to it but it is so much fun to see his expression on his face. Like “Mmm! Give me more!” Because he stretches his arms and tries to grab the bowl and spoon.

I have to continue giving rice for another week and then I think we can move on to another food. I can’t wait to give him avocado, sweet potatoes, carrots etc!

Luca’s motivation for crawling…

Baby gives a smile at Julia Roberts. Vanity Fair magazine
Luca knows when and who to smile!

Luca: 21 weeks old

He started “trying” to crawl and his motivation is … Julia Roberts.

Frankie gave me a magazine that he found at the lobby: Vanity Fair. I was interested to read because of Riahana. I don’t prefer to listen to her songs. I’ve never interested to listen to it (although I have to admit there are a couple songs that are so catchy and I don’t mind listening to them.) But I was interested to her life style and her mind. I found it interesting that she is just like us. She got funny sense of humor, she worries about her future love etc.

After I finished reading the article and flipped the magazine, I found Julia Roberts was smiling in the back of the magazine. I showed that to Luca and he started to smile at her. I just discovered Luca knows who to smile. He knows what smile is. Smart boy! 😂

As I discovered that, I just thought what if I put that in front of him. What would he do? The moment I captured in the photo answered my question. It did motivated him to get closer: crawling!! He didn’t crawl much because he didn’t know how yet. But definitely I saw he moved a couple inches. I was so excited to witness another milestone!!

Another milestone: Rolling over

Luca: 16 weeks old (almost 4 months in 3 days!)

Yay! You finally learned how to roll over!! I am soooo proud of you! From a couple weeks ago, you tried to roll over so many times from yourself, I even showed you how to do it too but you couldn’t. Now somehow you figured it out by yourself. What a smart boy you are!! You can’t imagine how exciting this is.

Love, your mama
